The following project was approved today by the World Bank's Board:
CREDIT AMOUNT: IDA-US$12.5 million equivalent
PROJECT DESCRIPTION: This project will provide education opportunities to children in grades ranging from 1-5, mainly through the provision of primary schooling but also, wherever appropriate, through a range of non-formal programs. The proposed operation would be designed to further expand the project coverage from the current 40 districts, to include all 70 districts in the country. At the end of the project, Nepal would be expected to have a significantly expanded and improved system of basic and primary education and have the capacity to manage it much more effectively than today.
