About the Workshop
 

Staff from several regions presented innovative approaches for  mainstreaming social and gender dimensions in transport programs such as: Strategy development in Africa transport; integrating gender issues into urban transport design in China through public participation; the impact of transportation access on girls’ and boy’s secondary school enrollment in Nepal; Peru Rural Roads - applying gender lessons in the third project; Combining GIS and participatory mapping in transport planning in Lesotho; gender and transport in Sub-Saharan Africa.

 

This roundtable learning event is part of SDN’s commitments towards the implementation of the World Bank Gender Action Plan 2006. Infrastructure is one of the key pillars of the Gender Action Plan: gender equality as smart economics. Research has shown that effective mainstreaming of social and gender dimensions in the design and monitoring can significantly increase the beneficial impact of transport program for women.
